Wholesale Service Rate Decisions will be of Limited Benefit to Canadians

February 21st, 2013. Chatham, Ontario.

TekSavvy Solutions Inc. (“TekSavvy”), one of Canada’s leading independent Internet service providers, is pleased that rates for the wholesale high-speed services that Bell Canada and Telus charge to independent ISPs have been reduced as a result of a series of decisions issued by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (“CRTC”) today. These decisions have also increased the equivalent rates charged by Rogers and Videotron. The rates are for the wholesale high-speed services that ISPs need to purchase from the large telephone and cable companies in order to provide Internet access and other high-speed services to their own retail customers.

“The CRTC decisions are a mixed bag with both benefits and losses”, said Marc Gaudrault, TekSavvy’s CEO. “Unfortunately, this is also a missed opportunity to create long term competition in the market. We will continue advocating for competition and Canadian consumers, as we always have.”
