TekSavvy delighted by CRTC call for Transparency

October 26th, 2012. Chatham, Ontario.

Canadian consumers are the big winners as the result of today’s CRTC decision forcing more openness into how large telephone and cable companies charge their competitors.

TekSavvy Solutions Inc. (“TekSavvy”), one of Canada’s leading independent Internet service providers, is very pleased with today’s decision to mandate greater openness and transparency in the CRTC processes for setting wholesale rates that incumbents, like telephone and cable companies, can charge competitors.

TekSavvy, both directly and through CNOC, has been working for greater transparency and openness in the CRTC process for setting wholesale rates that the incumbents can charge competitors.  This decision makes incumbents accountable for their wholesale rate proposals.

“This is great news for consumers.  Today’s decision by the CRTC is another step in the right direction to ensure competition remains strong within the Canadian telecom industry” says Marc Gaudrault, CEO of TekSavvy. “This move toward greater openness and transparency when setting rates is important to ensure that Canadians have affordable access to the internet”

This decision will make incumbents more accountable for their wholesale rate proposals.  TekSavvy looks forward to working with the CRTC on the implementation of this decision in future wholesale rate proceedings. http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2012/2012-168.htm
