All offers: All offers are only available where access and technology permit. Maximum internet speed not guaranteed: actual speed experienced may vary due to technical factors and practices: learn more here. The maximum download speed of a single device is limited by its ethernet card; a typical device will not experience download speeds above 1 Gbps. Therefore, in most cases, download speeds above 1 Gbps will only be achievable through the concurrent use of 3 or more devices; multiple wired connections will be required to obtain total maximum download speeds above 1 Gbps. TekSavvy service subject to Terms and Conditions. No offer lasts forever: advertised prices and offers may change over time, without notice. Taxes extra. Unless specified, offers cannot be combined with any other offers.

North American calling includes Canada and United States numbers only.

TekTalk Unlimited 6 month offer exclusively available to new TekSavvy residential internet customers with a download speed of 10Mbps or higher. Offer works as follows: sign up for an eligible TekSavvy residential internet service and receive 6 months of TekTalk Unlimited digital phone service at $0. Our then-current price (currently $22.95 /month) applies thereafter. Offer remains valid only as long as you continue to subscribe to your eligible internet service: if you cancel your TekSavvy internet before the end of the 6-month period, you have the option of either cancelling your TekTalk service or paying the then-current advertised monthly rate. Compatible hardware required for TekTalk service; receive a $0/mo hardware rental waiver for the duration of the 6-month offer. After the 6-month offer period, or if you terminate your offer early, our current hardware rental price of $2/mo will apply. Rental hardware remains the property of TekSavvy and must be returned upon termination of service; otherwise, we will charge you the undiscounted value of the non-returned hardware (value up to $49.95, depending on model selected). Because TekTalk is nomadic, its 9-1-1 service differs from traditional 9-1-1: read more here. Depending on your province, provincial 911 fees and taxes may apply.

You've got questions. We've got answers.

Universal Network-Level Call Blocking will block any incoming calls where the caller ID does not conform to established numbering plans, like the North American Numbering Plan (NANP).

The criteria for universal network-level call blocking are as follows:

  • The caller ID for international originated calls with less than 3 digits or exceeds 15 digits.
  • The caller ID contains a number that does not conform to a valid format under the NANP. For example:
    • Numbers that are not 10 digits (exception for 7 digit numbers such as 310-XXXX)
    • Calls coming from a single number (111-111-1111)
    • Calls coming from invalid area codes
    • Calls with numbers that have a 0 or 1 in the 4th position of the telephone number i.e. 613-012-1234
    • Calls matching the telephone number of the person being called.

In 2018, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) mandated that all voice telecommunications service providers implement universal network-level call blocking by December 19, 2019. Universal network-level call blocking is a solution intended to reduce the number of unwanted illegitimate calls that Canadians receive, and works by blocking blatantly illegitimate calls from reaching millions of Canadians.

This should not have any negative impact on your current services with us. Your phone service will continue to work as expected. TekSavvy will implement universal call blocking technology by December 19, 2019 on our TekTalk (Voice over Internet Protocol) network. Bell will implement universal call blocking technology by November 30, 2019 on its voice network, which will affect TekSavvy’s Home Phone service.

This implementation of universal call blocking should not affect expected calls. If you notice that you are no longer receiving calls that you would typically receive, please reach out to us by phone. Our team will investigate the matter for you.

Yes, you will still have the ability to manage your own blocked calls. We have multiple ways of doing so:

TekTalk Service

  • The Selective Call Rejection feature allows you to create a list of up to 50 phone numbers that will always have their calls rejected (a user-defined "blacklist"). These incoming calls are disconnected. To enable this feature, dial *60. To disable this feature, dial *80.
When enabled, the caller will hear:
English: "We’re sorry, the person you are calling is not accepting calls from you."
French: "Nous regrettons, la personne que vous tentez de joindre n’accepte pas vos appels en ce moment."
TekTalk Premium and Unlimited users can use the TekTalk Portal to customize how calls from the user-defined blacklist are handled. For example, calls can be forwarded directly to voicemail, request the caller to state their name before connecting the call (only available with Advanced Voicemail), or forward the call to another number.
The Selective Call Rejection feature is included in all TekTalk packages at no additional cost.
  • The Anonymous Call Rejection feature directs any incoming call with a blocked caller ID to a standardized message, and then disconnected. To enable this feature, dial *77. To disable this feature, press *87.
When enabled, the caller will hear:
English: "We’re sorry, the party you are trying to reach is not accepting calls from private numbers. Please hang up, reverse your number privacy and try again."
French: "La personne que vous appelez n’accepte pas les appels provenant de numéros confidentiels. Veuiller recomposer de nouveau sans que votre numéro soit confidentiel."
TekTalk Premium and Unlimited users can use the TekTalk Portal to forward anonymous calls to their voicemail after the standardized message, in addition to setting automatic time periods during which this feature is enabled.
The Anonymous Call Rejection feature is included in all TekTalk packages at no additional cost.

POTS Service

  • Call Privacy requires callers from blocked or unknown numbers to identify themselves. Callers will need to enter their 10-digit number or release their number by pressing pound. A "Friends & Family password" and a "Selective Acceptance List" can be set up to allow certain callers to quickly bypass this feature, allowing the call to ring through without being intercepted. To use this feature, press *11 (or 1111 on rotary phones with a visual display) and follow the voice prompts.
This feature is $3.00 per month.

Whether you’re calling the US or overseas, TekSavvy bills you for your long distance calls based on how long the call was active. Gone are the days of charging by the minute, but we also don’t charge by the second. Here is how TekSavvy figures out how much time to charge you for on long distance calls:

  • We do not bill at all for long distance calls under six seconds.
  • Long distance calls that are 6 seconds or longer are billed for a minimum of 30 seconds.
  • Long distance calls longer than 30 seconds will be billed in six-second increments. That means calls are rounded up to the nearest multiple of six seconds. For example, a long-distance call that lasts 90 seconds is billed for those 90 seconds, but a call that last 92 or 95 seconds will be billed for 96 seconds. One that lasts 97 seconds will be billed for 102 seconds.

This service is made up of two components:

  • Directory Assistance helps callers obtain the listed phone number for a person or organization.
  • Call Completion can dial a call once Directory Assistance provides the number.

The cost is $1.50 per dialed 411 attempt.

TekTalk Accessibility FAQs

TTY relay services (also known as 711) are text-to-voice and voice-to-text relay services. In a TTY relay service call, the relay operator communicates with the person who has a hearing or speech disability via TTY (typewritten messages), and with the person without a hearing or speech disability via voice.

TekTalk customers are able to make TTY calls free of charge, 24/7, 365 days a year. Access to TTY requires a TTY device.

TekSavvy offers ATA devices that can be configured to enable TTY services. Please advise TekSavvy if you require this when you place your order, so that TekSavvy can pre-configure your device before shipping it to you. If you require this configuration after you have received the device, please reach out to our Support team and we would be glad to set this up with you remotely.

TekSavvy does not support customer-brought ATAs, but we may be able to help you figure out how to configure your ATA for TTY. Please contact Support at 1-877-779-1575.

  1. Using your TTY device, dial 711.
  2. Follow the prompts from the operator to place your call.

Important: If you are a POTS (traditional analog home phone) customer you can still make use of our TTY service! There is one catch though, we are unable to intercept the 711 dialing code through our POTS service. As such, you must dial 1-866-782-9182 to use this service.

  1. If someone wishes to reach you for a TTY call, they can call (705) 222-3076 or toll-free 1-866-782-9182, and follow the prompts.
  2. The relay operator will need to know the phone number that you want to reach in order to complete the call.

IP relay services are text-to-voice and voice-to-text relay services, but run over Internet protocol. In an IP relay service call, the relay operator communicates with the person who has a hearing or speech disability via text and the person without a hearing or speech disability via voice. The person with a disability uses a device connected to the Internet (e.g. computer, laptop, wireless device) or a text messaging application to reach the relay operator. The person without a disability dials a toll-free number to reach the relay operator.

TekTalk customers can access this service free of charge, 24/7, 365 days a year. Access to IP Relay service requires an Internet connection.

To set up IP Relay service, TekSavvy will need to create a user account for you. You can request this when you place your order, or contact TekSavvy at any time to create an IP Relay account. In order to set up your IP Relay account, you will need to select a username, and password, and provide the following information:

TekTalk customers can access this service free of charge, 24/7, 365 days a year. Access to IP Relay service requires an Internet connection.

  • Name
  • Email address
  • 911 address (if you move, you must update your service address registered with TekSavvy – this address will be provided to emergency services in the event that a 9-1-1 call placed via IP Relay is disconnected before your location is confirmed)
  • Emergency contact name
  • Emergency contact number
  1. Log in to the IP Relay Portal with your username and password.
  2. In the lower right corner of the screen, click Chat.
  3. Click on ‘IP Relay’ username.
  4. A box will pop up – type your message into this box, and follow the instructions from the IP Relay Agent.

If someone wishes to reach you for an IP Relay call, they will need to know your IP Relay username in order to place a voice-to-text call. Voice users can call 1-855-244-5185 to connect with an IP Relay operator.

You must be logged in to the IP Relay portal to receive calls. Log in to the IP Relay Portal with your username and password.

The mobility of this service makes it very hard for TekSavvy and 9-1-1 operators to pinpoint the location of a 9-1-1 call. Some traditional telephone providers offer Enhanced 9-1-1 services (E911), which immediately connects a 9-1-1 call to an emergency call centre and automatically provides the 9-1-1 operator with the phone number and address of the caller.

However, TekTalk provides Basic 9-1-1 service, which first connects 9-1-1 calls to a national emergency call centre. The call taker will ask the caller to identify his or her location to the 9-1-1 operator, and then the call taker will route the call to the emergency response centre serving that area. In the event that the 9-1-1 is disconnected or the caller cannot speak to confirm their location, the national emergency call centre will route the 9-1-1 call to the emergency response centre service the service address last registered with TekSavvy. Address registrations and updates may be done in your at MySavvy Portal.

9-1-1 calling will not function in the event of a power or broadband outage, or if your broadband service (whether provided by TekSavvy or another service provider) is suspended or disconnected.

When calling for emergency services from a TTY device, you should always dial 911 directly.

  1. Using your TTY device, dial 911.
  2. The call taker will chat with you in a TTY chat window.
  3. Advise the operator that this is an emergency, the type of emergency, and the location of your emergency right away.
  4. The operator will contact the proper emergency response centre on your behalf and relay information about the emergency and your location to the response centre.
  5. Do not disconnect, unless the operator asks you to.
  6. If you get disconnected, call back.

If you dial 711 instead of 911, the call taker will be able to transfer your call to a 911 call taker and proceed with the call. However, if your call is disconnected or you are unable to communicate with the 911 call taker before confirming the location of the emergency, the national emergency call centre will not have access to the service address last registered with TekSavvy. We recommend providing your location information immediately.

Access to 9-1-1 via IP Relay has certain limitations relative to Enhanced 9-1-1 service, which is available on most “traditional” telephone services. The IP Relay operator may not know where you are calling from unless you provide accurate location information when asked.

You should keep your address information current with TekSavvy, as the operator may assume that you are at the 911 address submitted when you requested an IP Relay account in the event that your 9-1-1 call is disconnected before location can be confirmed.

Make sure that you and any users of IP Relay are familiar with the nature and limitations of the 9-1-1 calls placed using the service.

  1. Log in to the IP Relay Portal with your username and password.
  2. While logged into the portal, there are three buttons on the lower-left side of the screen. Click the appropriate button for your emergency.
  • 911 – Police
  • 911 – Fire
  • 911 - Ambulance

Confirm your emergency address location right away.

The IP Relay Agent will confirm your address, contact 9-1-1, and relay your messages to various emergency centres until they are no longer needed, and an appropriate emergency responder has been dispatched to your location.

Do not disconnect, unless the operator asks you to.

If you get disconnected, call back.
